The future is uncertain, as a great number of companies have instituted hiring freezes, affecting women’s overall employability. Women will need to acquire new skills needed for more in-demand industries and to think creatively about how to market their skill sets. So what are the most in-demand job skills post COVID-19? This event is organised in partnership with SANAD’s Entrepreneurship Academy, which will focus on discussing the job skills needed to meet the requirements of new emerging job markets.
The MENA region suffers from the lowest female established business ownership rate, but why is that? Some reasons behind this include behaviors, attitudes and policies that restrict women from borrowing from financial institutions. Indeed, today 70% of women entrepreneurs in the MENA region say that funding opportunities in their countries are too restrictive and do not allow them to secure the financing they need for growth and to reach their full potential. In addition, the lack of female representatives in the banking industry means the financial services offered to women are not comprehensive. In the current climate of the COVID-19 pandemic, women’s entrepreneurship is likely to fall down even more and without adequate funding many risk having to close their businesses. It is necessary to work on breaking down the barriers that businesswomen face when seeking funding, starting with the banking environment. In partnership with the Arab Bank, the Ethihad Bank and Ask Heidi, this panel will explore ways to improve women’s access to funding and make the largely male-dominated banking system more friendly to women.
